Are you to busy to think about fire safety in your home? That could be a tragic mistake and one you could regret for the rest of your life!

Real Life - Excuses Kill!

On the 21st August 2001 there was a fire in the home of the Graham family. The family was a sleep. Anne and Michael got out alive their two children, Amy, aged 3 and Josh aged 5 didn’t. The Graham family had thought about fire safety and they’d fitted smoke alarms in the downstairs and upstairs landing but they didn’t check the batteries weekly.

Sad isn’t it that for less than the price of a pint there lives will never be the same again.

A smoke alarm is a warning device that detects smoke at the earliest stages of a fire. This gives you vital extra time to escape.

Smoke alarms cost as little as £5 and you can get them from supermarkets, high street stores or electrical wholesalers. If you’re considering buying some get a 10 year alarm, which may cost a few pounds more but these will not need the batteries changing so often.

To receive a free home fire safety check, free smoke alarms free fitting call Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service on 01246 454413 or email smokealarms@derbys-fire.gov.uk
