Bogus Callers, Fraud and Scam its something we all least think will happen to us and some of these schemes are so difficult to recognise its over before you know it, and then its to late!

On this page we will post any information received from the police or general public on any suspicious characters operating within our area. This is where we need you to get involved and give us you input so we can post it on this site, so please contact us a.s.a.p!

This site is the one to watch so every time we are informed of a new incident in the Chesterfield area, it’s posted on this site and highlighted on our home page in the top left hand corner with the above logo which will be flashing, New Scam Read Now with time and date of posting.

SO LETS WORK TOGETHER ON THIS AND PUT THESE PARASITES OF SOCIETY WERE THEY BELONG, BEHIND BARS!

Here are some helpful tips to beat the bogus callers.

Most people who call at your home will be genuine, but sometimes, people turn up unannounced, with the intention of tricking their way into people’s homes. they are known as distraction burglars or bogus callers whose only aim is to get into your home, distract you and steal your money or valuables. your should always be on your guard when someone calls you don’t know.

Bogus callers may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, the police, health organisations, gas, electricity companies or request help for a sick friend in the street, only g to help them if you have someone else with you. Don’t worry if you choose not to help them its not rude or unfriendly.

In fact they may use any story. Always be on your guard! Don’t be fooled by identity cards, we all have powerful computers these days, overalls and company logos are also used.

Have a chain fitted to your door and leave it on when answering. If you do not have a chain use a window and keep all doors locked.

If they have an I D card take it from them and contact the company concerned there should always be a contact telephone number. If not use the phone book to verify and make contact giving the name and description of the caller.

Check details against any appointment you have made for someone to call a genuine caller will not object whilst you check there details with there office.

You should never agree to have work carried or sign any contract by someone who is just passing and never be pressured into paying for unnecessary work or paying before the work is carried out.

Never let anyone drive you to the bank so you can withdraw money, if you need some work doing get a quote from a reputable company. you can check if a companies is reputable by contacting the local council’s trading standards office.

Bogus callers sometimes work in pairs or even teams. They are often well organised. One will distract the you while the other searches the house for money or valuables. they can be men, women or children or both. Watch out for anyone who’s in a hurry don’t let them pressure or confuse you.

If you think a bogus caller has called at your door report it to the police immediately - DAIL 999 and tell them what has happened, try to give a description of them and whilst they are on there way tell a neighbour, caretaker or neighbourhood watch representative just in case they try another home.
