Introduction to Musical Theatre…

THE SCHOOL

Musical Theatre is a growing and challenging industry, which requires highly skilled, well trained and versatile performers.

So at DTA we train from a very early age. We start the musical theatre classes from the age of six years upwards and this takes place

usually on Friday evenings between the hours of 5pm till 9.30pm dependant on the age group being taught. Dance is taught on most day

Drama classes for the school runs on a Monday evening from 6pm onwards but private lessons are also available. Singing again is most days

and is a one to one private class.

All the above for the school can be found on our web site: www.directionstheatrearts.org or you can pop in for a prospectus and a look around.

THE COLLEGE

The 2/3 year intensive musical theatre course at DTA affords students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills in the three core disciplines

of dance, acting and singing in order to be a “triple-threat” performer. All classes are taught by highly skilled and qualified teachers with substantial

professional performance experience and “guest” teachers working within the industry are a regular feature on our timetable.

Students receive individual attention and guidance at all stages of their training in order to ensure their development and success.

Performance is an integral part of Musical Theatre training for the school and college and students are offered several opportunities to develop their stagecraft during the course. A large-scale musical is produced each year in addition to a variety of revues and showcases.

Students also have the opportunity to perform in road shows, charity events and after-dinner concerts. There is also opportunity for students to
participate in professional productions (with the permission of the Principal) and recent productions involving DTA students include
Cinderella (Ballet Russe - Palace Theatre, Mansfield) and Babes in the Wood & Dick Whittington (Bruce James Productions - Pomegranate

Theatre, Chesterfield).Plus Cinderella at the Sheffield Lyceum with UK Productions.
